Hide certain text areas from Funnelback

Is there a recognised ('official'?) way to hide blocks of text from Funnelback?

One obvious example might be navigation areas.....I am aware that hiding links could easily prevent the crawler from reaching some pages, but I'd like to experiment with this.

 

The problem I'm currently having is that a few terms (the ones that are present in the main nav) are being matched against EVERY single file in the index, even where it is completely inappropriate...

A few different ways, see http://docs.funnelback.com/14.0/padre.htmlfor reference, but I think you are looking for <!-- noindex --> and <!-- endnoindex -->.

Another approach using Funnelback's filter chains might be appropriate if you can't modify the content at it's source:
